 A few easy ways to get the word out about your project!
Gadget Gangster does a few different things to help promote your projects, we run banner ads for selected projects, post in forums, attend tradeshows, and more. But the best way to drive interest in your project is a little self promotion. It doesn't take a lot of effort, but it can really pay off. Here are a few ways to drive interest:
Post your project on a forum
Many forums already have boards for finished projects - a small post on a forum is an easy way to let others know about your project. You can also add a link to your project in your forum signature. If your project is appeal to a specific groups (like robotics hobbyists), you should probably post a note on the relevant forum (like www.letsmakerobots.com).
Your post doesn't need to be complicated or long, just a short note like, "I did a really cool PICaxe based walking robot you guys might find interesting - you can take a look at the video over here. Let me know what you think!".
Post your howto on instructables
Instructables is a well-trafficked site where a lot of folks are looking to do interesting projects. It's an easy way to drive interest in your project and also make your howto. Even if you've already done your howto in a pdf, converting it to instructables is straightforward.
Send a note to your favorite blog
Blogs are always looking for new content and interesting stuff to post. A few of my favorite blogs are the Make Magazine blog, Hackaday, and Hacked Gadgets. Blogs that also focus on the audience your project serves are also great (like sending a note to a beer blog if you've made the frosty beverage timer).
Post a note in your own blog
A number of designers have their own blogs or websites, letting your readers about your cool design is a no-brainer.
Make a video
A little YouTube video can drive interest, especially if you use it as a cool demo for your project. Chances are that your digital camera makes decent video recordings, or you can grab a Flip Video recorder for about $50
